DCUC Wave 3 has nothing short of a stellar line-up! This wave brings us superarticulated versions of Robin (Tim Drake version), Nightwing, Green Lantern (Hal Jordan!), Sinestro, and Deathstroke the Terminator. Not to mention the super-impressive Solomon Grundy C&C figure. The character line-up is great and while some production runs were plagued by quality control problems, overall this was the most exciting wave of the line so far. Because of his “violent” reputation, Lobo was a tough character for Mattel to release at mass retail in the DCUC line. But they cleverly worked around that by making him a con exclusive at SDCC in ‘08. The oversized figure is loaded down with accessories and comes in a really innovative package that makes use of 3D graphics! Expand the post for pics and reviews, and be sure to check out Lobo’s page at DCUniverseClassics.com for more ‘comprehensive’ coverage! …read full article…

The second series of Mattel’s Movie Masters line in connection with The Dark Knight motion picture brings us 6″ scale superarticulated versions of Batman is his original Batman Begins batsuit as well as The Scarecrow in his updated full-length straightjacket look from the new movie. There is also a chase variant of Batman in his “Fear Toxin” look from the first movie. Expand the post for pics and reviews. …read full article…

The first series of The Dark Knight Movie Masters figures from Mattel is out and I picked up a couple of them this morning. The first series includes Batman, The Joker, and a Gotham City Thug, along with an unmasked Batman chase figure. I have mixed feelings about these figures. Overall, they’re nice… but I have major issues with their price and their scale. Expand the post for more. …read full article…

Okay, I guess Mattel’s DC Super Friends aren’t exactly ’superarticulated’ but they’re just so darn cute I felt like they deserved to be on the site anyway! Each classic DC Comics character is stylized in this adorable big-smiled, exaggerated-proportions fashion and comes with some kind of action feature gimmick. The first assortment includes Superman, Batman, Lex Luthor, Flash, Green Lantern and Aquaman. Expand the post to see the pics and reviews. …read full article…

If Mattel was trying to really go out with a ‘bang’ in their eighth and final series of DC Superheroes, they only halfway succeeded. This assortment should have been really strong from top to bottom to help build fan anticipation for DC Universe Classics - the upcoming expansion of this line. However, in classic big-toy-manufacturer fashion, Mattel managed to sour the awesomeness of Clayface, Catwoman, and the black-&-grey Bats by including some sub-par rehashes of old versions of The Joker, Nightwing, and Bruce Wayne-to-Batman. Pics and Reviews to follow. …read full article…

After three long and exhausting Superman-themed waves, DC Superheroes returns to Batman’s world and gives us four of Gotham’s finest. This wave features Knight Shadow Batman, Cassie Cain Batgirl, Camo Bane, and Two-Face. While this is an excellent assortment of figures, they were nearly impossible to find in stores. This wave seems to have had the shortest (smallest) production run of any DCSH series, making Two-Face and Batgirl two of the most sought after figures in the collection. Also, the included dioramas evolved a bit further this time with each character getting unique artwork on his or her dio. Expand the post for pics and reviews. …read full article…

The sixth series of DC Superheroes was a long, drawn-out disaster of distribution. In fact, the two most sought-after characters in the wave ended up as ‘Big Lots’ exclusives (practically) when Wal-Mart dropped the line halfway through this series’ run. Nevertheless, Mattel did manage to deliver us a Cyborg Superman, Black Suit Superman, Kal-El Superman, Mongul, Darkseid Repaint, and Bizarro Repaint. All in all, this wave turned out pretty nice. If you could find them! Expand the post for pics and reviews. …read full article…
